Catch 22

In The NewsARC408

espite spending the summer of 1980 moving to Swindon, contacting Colin Moulding (XTC) asking for help looking for a Drummer, working on a farm to pay the rent, persuading Pete Morse to stay in the band. Jon Mills and Pete Waller returned to Bristol disappointed. Once back in Bristol and furnishing a new songwriting partnership they found a new Drummer in Simon Rogers from Bedminster. The band named itself CATCH 22 recording its first Demo at Andy Allens Cave Studio in Portland Square (Alone in a Room in 1960, Five Years On and Still Proud to be your Fool) With interest from Simon Edwards giving them motivation they began rehearsing with a view to gigs in the locality. Pete took up more vocal responsibilities and Jon began playing Bass they formed a tight three piece. Disaster struck when Drummer Simon Rogers announced he was leaving to join the Army! With the Drummer gone Simon Edwards interest waned despite Jon and Petes attempts to rapidly replace with another Drummer (Kieren Wright Misdemeanour) They soldiered on rehearsing (Hambrook Hall Frenchay) but things fell apart after a few months and the band split.
